Allergy to pet fur?

When it comes to allergy to animals, many people associate the cause to fur or the feathers. But this is not 100% true. In fact, the greatest villain of this problem is the large increase of mites in the environment caused by the presence of pets. This is because, besides by the critters loose too much skin – and the mite, which feeds these fragments, breeds rapidly.

95% of cases of allergy to pets are caused by mites, not by fur or feathers. Only 5% of people have one of the causes the fur of animals. In cats, the cause may also be in the animal’s saliva. Pussy licks too and particles (proteins) present in saliva are allergenic impregnated in skin and fur, causing allergy and reactions in sensitive people.

Allergy that comes with family

For symptoms to manifest, you do not need direct contact with the animal. A meeting with its owner or with people who play it can be enough to trigger the first signs of irritation from the allergy. Furthermore, in the case of cats, the owner may take the clothing and allergen trigger or exacerbate crisis who suffer from the problem.

In general, this kind of evil has genetic component. Doctors say that if a family member is allergic, the offspring have a 50% chance of having the problem. If two family, the risk of other direct relatives rises to 75%.

Symptoms of the Allergy

As symptoms of the allergy, skin rash, nasal congestion, itching, sneezing, runny nose , rhinitis, conjunctivitis and asthma may occur. There is also a possibility, although rare, to trigger anaphylaxis – rapid and severe allergic reaction , with skin symptoms, respiratory, digestive or circulatory – and even anaphylactic shock, resulting from a fall in blood pressure, tachycardia and blood circulation disorder, possibly with closing the airway.
