You know; I actually know of very few people who clean their iron. This is an absolutely awful idea. You see; cleaning an iron will ensure that your clothes do not end up with some awful stains on them. It will also ensure that the iron heats up evenly. This should make the ironing process a whole lot easier. Cleaning your iron will even extend its lifespan. On this page I want to talk to you about one of the best iron cleaning tips ever….salt!
Salt to clean your Iron
Honestly; salt is one of the best ways in which you can possibly clean your iron. I don’t know why it works…it just does. You do not need much in the way of equipment to clean your iron either. Providing you have the following to hand you should be fine:
- Your iron (obviously!)
- Plain Paper
Sprinkle a good amount of salt over the plain paper. In my opinion the more salt on there the better. You should then switch your iron to the hottest temperature but turn off the steam option. Wait for the iron to heat up.
To clean, run the iron slowly over the plain paper.
It will then start to take the salt on board and it will gradually start to clean itself. The whole process will take a minute or so. Once you are done you can flick the iron off and wait for it to cool down. Once the iron has cooled down it is a case of simply brushing off the excess salt and you are done. You will most likely notice straight away that all of the sticky residue that was there before has gone. Your iron is now completely clean!
I suggest that you clean your iron once a month. This should be more than sufficient. If your iron gets dirty however then you can use the technique to clean it using salt whenever you wish. It should clean it quite quickly and you can go back to using the iron again. I suggest that you use it whenever the iron gets a little bit sticky (you will notice this) as you will obviously want to stop the iron from dirtying your clothes.
In terms of cleaning your ironing board there is not a lot you can really do. Perhaps one of the best tips I can give you is to purchase an ironing board cover (if you do not have one already). This means that you can just throw it in with your washing whenever it gets a little bit dirty. Obviously you will want to be doing this as often as you possibly can. It will stop your clothes from becoming dirty. I also suggest that you give your ironing board a good ‘brush down’ with a soft brush whenever you have finished your load of ironing. It will make sure that it is completely clean for you the next time (you will be surprised at the amount of grime which may end up falling off the cleanest of clothes)Read More
