Microwave. Tips to keep it clean

microwaveYou will be surprised at the amount of people who really do not know how to keep their microwave clean. In fact; I know a couple of people that never clean their microwave. It is important that you learn how to do so however.

You see; a clean microwave is a happy microwave.

A clean microwave will not only transmit heat better (and thus make it more effective at cooking your food), but it will also ensure that the microwave does not harbour bacteria and will even extent its lifespan drastically. On this page I want to share with you a couple of tips for keeping your microwave clean:

The first is good old plain white vinegar. For this method you should fill up a glass bowl to the halfway mark with clean water. You should then add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the solution. Flick the microwave on for five minutes (at a high heat) and you should be done. When it is done you will notice that all of the dirt and grime within the microwave has stuck to the walls. All you need to do at this stage is wipe it down with some paper towels. It should be fairly easy! Do make sure not to burn yourself on the boiling water though. That would be painful (and part of the reason as to why you will only be filling it to the halfway point). If you find that the dirt and grime is really stuck on there then you should try and add a few more tablespoons of white vinegar to the water.

The second technique for cleaning your microwave is pretty much the same as before. Instead of using vinegar this time however we will be using something else acidic. This is a lemon. You will want to cut it in half and place on a dish with the juicy part facing down. Add a tablespoon of water to the dish. Put the lemon in the microwave for a minute and then wipe the walls inside down. The reason as to why I love this technique is the fact that you can use the lemon for other things afterwards when it comes to cleaning. For example; cutting the lemon up and flushing through your garbage disposal will make it smell fabulous…and you do not have to spend a ton of cash on those expensive cleaners!

Washing up liquid is also good. Fill up a bowl with water and add a ton of washing up liquid. You can then turn your microwave on for a minute (or longer if the water has yet to steam). The benefit of going down this route is the fact that your microwave is going to end up smelling brilliant. Do make sure that you clean your microwave fully though. You do not want liquid residue getting into your food.

Try to clean your microwave using these techniques at least once a month.
